Coloured Lens

We at Margaret Barrett Opticians Specialise in Sight Testing and Assessment of Children and Adults with Dyslexic Tendencies

Symptoms to watch out for include sore tired eyes, frowning and squinting at near or far tasks, losing concentration quickly, pulling books up close to the eyes, mixing up words or letters, skipping lines or losing your place when reading.

We check for a lazy eye, and /or weak eye muscles or vision causing an imbalance between the eyes resulting in eye strain. We also check the ability of the two eyes to work together. We then carry out a Scotopic Test to see if coloured filters or overlays will help words look clearer and steadier and the Wilkins Rate of Reading Test judges whether a coloured lens or reading glasses improve speed and accuracy when reading. We do a health check to rule out eye disease, squints etc.

We produce a report for the School or Resource Teacher or Educational Psychologist. This includes practical tips and recommendations to help the affected student. We also provide software based exercises to improve tracking and/or dyslexic tendencies.
