Information on Red Eye
This is a common problem and our optometrists will advise you whether your reddened sore irritated eye is caused by a simple infection or allergy or cased by a more serious problem, eg raised blood pressure. We can recommend solutions or ointments to cure the problem and can advise you whether you need to see a pharmacist, doctor or eye clinic to solve your red eye.
Information on Dry Eye:
Dry eye means that your eyes may not be making enough tears, that the tears which are being produced are of poor quality or that the tears that are produced evaporate away. The normal function of tears is to keep the surface of the eye wet and lubricated so any shortage of tears or reduction in their quality can produce a gritty, burning sensation of the eyes and can also disturb vision.
We provide eye drops and gels to moisten the eyes, we also recommend taking a tablespoon of flax seed oil daily as it improves the quality of the tear film (try it in yoghurt to minimise the taste) Capsules of flax seed oil are also effective. These can be purchased from a pharmacy or health food shop.
