Myopia and its Impact on Vision

Myopia, also known as shortsightedness or nearsightedness, is a kind of vision impairment which makes it difficult to focus on objects in the distance. The condition is very common and usually emerges between the ages of 16 and 14 – this is one reason that regular eye tests are especially important for children. When left uncorrected myopia can cause serious difficulties for young people in their education, development and social lives.

Myopia management is a quickly expanding field and offers many different ways to correct myopic vision and slow down its progression over time. We provide two effective myopia management options in the form of contact lenses and spectacle lenses. Your optometrist will give you all the information you need to effectively correct your child’s myopia in a way that works for them.

Glasses For Children

While needing glasses may not be welcome news, especially for young children, we do our best to help them find frames and lenses that they’re excited about. Whether or not they want them in the first place, children care about their glasses, so we make our eyewear for kids reach a high standard of quality.

As well as stocking frames to suit different age groups, styles and personalities, our friendly and experienced team make sure to consider the unique requirements of each child or teen.

Visual Stress

Visual stress, also known as Meares-Irlen Syndrome or Scotopic Sensitivity Syndrome, refers to a condition where the visual system struggles to process text or patterns, leading to discomfort, fatigue, and difficulty focusing while reading. It is not the same as dyslexia but is often found in individuals with reading difficulties, including children.

We've worked with many families to explore Coloured Overlays and Tinted Lenses to see how colour may help alleviate some symptoms.
